From Caregiving to Advocacy

On October 15th, I had the honor to speak at the Brave. Bold. Beyond. – Virtual Summit that attracted over 500 attendees. In late August I applied to take part in this Summit and was selected to share my journey from caregiving to advocacy.

It was a rewarding experience that not only went outside my comfort zone, but also challenged me to think, “what’s next?” I learned how to craft a stellar speech, and adapt to a style that I was not used to.

During the process I was a bit stressed trying to perfect my talk, and condense it to ten minutes. It started to become stressful because when i had call time with my coach my mom would start to sundown. She did not understand what I was doing.

The morning of the Summit, my mom woke me up several times thinking she was on fire early morning hours starting at 1:30 am, so I hardly slept. That morning, I was ready to give up. I kept telling myself I have made it this far to stop being selfish and just do it. I realized I have a powerful journey to share, and out of the 500 attendees hopefully it will help someone but most important bring awareness to this cause. During the course of my speech there were a lot of interactions, and when I had the opportunity to read, and re-read the words of encouragement, I realized it was worth it!

Please view below, and hopefully you will be inspired to advocate for an issue that you are passionate about.
